Introduction to the Command-line Interface In-Person
This class is part of the Research Data Management Seminar Series
Workshop 1: Introduction to the Command-line Interface
Many data analysis tools and computational resources require users to have a basic working knowledge of the command line interface (also referred to as UNIX, Linux, bash, shell). In this workshop participants will learn basic commands for performing simple tasks within a filesystem without the use of a point and click environment.
Workshop scope:
- Navigating the file system and exploring the folders/files using shell
- Performing file operations, such as moving, copying, and renaming files
- Exploring file contents
- Creating new files and searching for content within
Audience: This session is open to HMS/HSPH/HSDM. You don't need to have any previous knowledge of the tools that will be presented at the workshop. Additional sessions in this series will build upon the topics covered.
Location: TMEC 227 Mini Amphitheater
Requirements: Participants should bring a laptop with a Mac, Linux, or Windows operating system (not a tablet, Chromebook, etc.) that they have administrative privileges on.
