Research Sharing: The Making of a Data Availability Statement Online
What: This seminar will walk through how to construct a data availability statement, with a focus on the types of information to include and the steps necessary to make the underlying data available. We will dissect a data availability statement from a recent publication as an example and provide a template to help attendees approach creating their own statements.
Why: Making a publication’s data and code available is an essential part of reproducible research. Data sharing allows others to explore, replicate, and reuse the information underlying a publication’s findings. As data sharing becomes a requirement of many funders and journals, researchers must take into account how to prepare data for release alongside a publication. This may include gathering data and metadata from multiple researchers, assays, and labs. These organization efforts culminate in a data availability statement, which shares where and how the data can be publicly accessed.
How: This is a free 1 hour online workshop, consisting of lecture, interactive poll questions, and Q&A.
Where: Online via Zoom (link provided upon registration).
Who: This seminar is open to faculty, research staff, postdoctoral researchers, and students from all disciplines. There are no prerequisites or assumptions of knowledge. It's never too early to start thinking about sharing your data!
