Juneteenth Celebration In-Person
The Black Staff Caucus (BSC) and Countway Library are inviting the Harvard Longwood community to observe Juneteenth National Independence Day to commemorate June 19, 1865. On this date Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas with news that President Abraham Lincoln had issued the Emancipation Proclamation two years prior. Albeit late, former slaves celebrated the news with dance, song, and feasting. That tradition continues today.
Dress comfortably so you can enjoy the food and then the movement that follows! Sign up onsite for a timeslot with our Boston-area wellness providers (space is limited on a first-come, first-serve basis), join a demo or enter to win a raffle. It’s a celebration!
This event is free and open to everyone. Harvard ID holders do not need to register.
Non-Harvard ID holders please register below for access to the building.
