Silent Reading Party 🎵 with Zines!

Silent Reading Party 🎵 with Zines! In-Person

You deserve a mental health break. Enjoy live music improvised just for you while you read, study, or check out the amazing zines made from our zine-making workshops!

What is a Silent Reading Party?

It’s a drop-in party designed to be the perfect atmosphere for reading. It’s much easier to turn off your phone and read if everyone else is doing it too. Plus, there’s live piano music specifically arranged and performed to set the mood but not be distracting.

Come read “alone together” or meet fellow book lovers! BYOB (Bring Your Own Book) or grab one from the library. Feel free to bring a laptop or notepad to work on if you like. Pamper yourself with words while sipping warm beverages and listening to soft music.

What is a Zine?

Zines [pronounced ZEEN] are a self-owned means of publishing that has a variety of lineages including underground Black literary publishing, science fiction fandom, Punk culture, the Queer community, and Feminist organizers. Zines can be on any topic as mundane as a tribute to your favorite sodas, as useful as a cookbook, or even supplement a conference presentation with a memorable handout.

Who is our pianist?

Live piano music will be provided by Mimi, a Countway Concerts pianist. Mimi enjoys hosting Silent Reading Parties to promote the love of books and music. She also plays at special events and performs a wide range of music from Classical to Rock/Metal to Broadway and movie theme songs as well as her own compositions and improvisations. Follow Mimi on Instagram @MimiManyin and @TheLiteraryPiano.

Open to all Harvard ID holders.
